Bond. James Bond.
And no; for once, this is not a joke. I began watching Bond movies when I was young; too young to truly remember them, really. I have the suspicion that my 'real' father was responsible for exposing me to him at that age. It would certainly be ironic.
James Bond taught me much of what I needed to know about life. He taught me those little man-skills that you just can't learn from anywhere but your father. He taught me how to dress (even though I rarely obey his rules). He taught me everything I know about women, alcohol consumption, and weaponry. And he did what every parent should do: he gave me a system of moral values.
Bond is a man who values Queen and Country; and is, indeed, willing to go to superhuman lengths for them. He is absolutely loyal to the people he cares about. Of those few who have dared harm those close to Bond, none survived for very long. Because that's another thing Bond taught me: you cannot be afraid to kill for the things that matter to you.
Bond also taught me the danger of letting too many people get too close. Many of those who tried to get close to him were only using him. Most of the others, the ones who were genuinely close to him, were killed (such as his wife) or severely maimed (like his good friend Felix Leiter). 007 chooses his friends carefully, as do I. There are not many who I consider close, ut for them, there is nothing I would not do.
